Oliai Paces Lady Scots to Team Title

After changing course, literally, Highland Park easily won the team title at the Ben Robertson Stallion Stampede cross country meet on Saturday in Rowlett.

The team originally was supposed to travel to a meet in Round Rock that was cancelled because of inclement weather and poor course conditions.

In Rowlett, the Lady Scots had four of the top five finishers in the varsity race, led by freshman Sophia Oliai, who completed the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 31 seconds — more than a minute faster than any other competitor.

Other top-10 runners for HP included Cameron Fawcett, Annemarie Whalen, Grace O’Keefe, and Isabel Blaylock. A second HP team was the runner-up in the team standings, with Jordyn Kaplan placing seventh individually.

On the boys side, HP finished third as a team, paced by Jack Alessio with a time of 17:39.

The Lady Scots will travel to a meet on Saturday at the Tarrant Country College Northeast Campus in Hurst. It will be their final tuneup prior to the District 15-5A meet on Oct. 12.
