Downing, Staunton Lead HP Gymnasts
Highland Park gymnasts finished second in both the boys and girls team standings at the Lakeview Compulsory Classic on Friday in Garland.
In their season opener, the Lady Scots were led by Kennedy Downing, who was the runner-up in the all-around standings while also winning on vault and floor exercise. Linda Tran was second on floor and uneven bars.
In boys action, HP freshman Clay Staunton won the all-around title along with four individual events. Nicholas Gregory won on horizontal bar, while Hudson Lightfoot placed second on vault.
The Scots will return to action on Dec. 5 at the Toys for Tots Invitational in Bedford.
