Neighbor Vs. Neighbor
Although the schools are just 3.9 miles away from each other, Highland Park and Hillcrest have not met on the gridiron since 1999.
That will change in a few hours when the Scots (11-0) welcome the Panthers (8-2) to Highlander Stadium for a Class 4A Division II playoff game. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Scots, coming off a 49-7 whipping of Frisco Centennial, have won 62 straight home games. Meanwhile, the Panthers had to rally in the fourth quarter last week for a 15-14 victory over Seagoville. Highland Park owns a 13-1 lead in the all-time series with Hillcrest.
The winner of tonight’s game moves on to play the Mesquite Poteet-Whitehouse winner next week.
If the Scots win, head coach Randy Allen said they will play at 7 p.m. one week from Saturday. He did not divulge where that game would be, which leads me to believe it’s probably somewhere pretty cool. Perhaps Jerry World? We’ll see.
