Pray with your Pets This Sunday

0

All God’s creatures are welcome this Sunday at NorthPark Presbyterian Church for the 3rd annual Blessing of the Pets.

We’re looking forward to lots of new faces and furry guests!

Casual dress is encouraged and pets should be on leashes or in kennels or cages. Bowls and terrariums are acceptable too, of course.

NorthPark recommends visitors choose a seat in the church’s sanctuary based on the comfort level and sociability of your pet. For pets that are deceased, or for those not crowd or child-friendly, pet owners are encouraged to bring a photo instead.

The theology behind pet blessings is hundreds of years old, says lead pastor, Rev. Brent Barry.

When times are good, it’s easy to praise God. But when times are hard, it’s only natural to wonder where God is and why He isn’t saving us. It’s common for this dichotomy of feelings to exist in all of us, and Easter is a perfect example of this.

One Sunday, people laid palm branches on the road for Jesus and cried “Hosanna (save us!), Hosanna in the highest!” They were praising Him and crowning Him as king with the expectation He would deliver them from Roman rule. Yet in just a few short days, those same people put thorns on His head and nailed Him to a cross. Only they couldn’t recognize He was actually fulfilling their cry for salvation.

Remember Watching ‘The Love Boat’?

0

Most of us ‘40+ singles’ spent many Saturday nights at home during our childhood, or (for the severely (un)lucky number of us) teens or even twenties, watching The Love Boat at 9 p.m.!

It's likely that all of us now have different recollections about what the show actually meant to us back then. For this adolescent male growing up in the 1980’s, the show used to mean:

  1. 'Well, this is better than BJ, The Bear and Quincy M.D., I suppose.'
  2. 'I hope Charo or that one lady from Maude is a guest star tonight!'
  3. 'How does this Doc guy get all the girls?’
