Tragic News of Wentz’s Passing

While on Facebook a minute ago, I was stunned to hear of the passing of SMU student Jonathan Wentz, 21, of Richardson.

Back in July, I did a story on Wentz, an equestrian who was gearing up to head to London for the Paralympics. Wentz was born with cerebral palsy. I remember being clearly moved by Wentz’s incredible attitude and passion for life. You could tell he loved competing, and he had established himself as one of the best riders in the country. He was one of the most likable guys I’ve ever interviewed. I am glad he got the chance to realize his dream of competing in the Paralympics.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Bible Church, 11306 Inwood Road and are open to the poublic.

Rest in peace, Jonathan.
