I just got back from this morning’s Highland Park administration committee meeting, where something sweet and very touching was on the agenda. The folks at Bradfield Elementary want to construct a “paved memorial seating area” inspired by Johnny O’Leary, who passed away in second-grade last year. The area will honor not only Johnny’s memory, but that of any Bradfield students who passed away while attending the school.
Instead of engraved bricks, planners have designed a “fallen petals” concept, where glass petals look as though they have fallen off a flowering tree. The petals will house the names of deceased classmates. Needless to say, the administrative committee approved.
“What you’re doing is wonderful,” Mayor Joel Williams said.
The item will go before the full Town Council on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m.
